MARK HUMENICK

Mark's design philosophy stems from his studies of the Bauhaus Movement of the early 20th century. Walter Gropius' statement of The Manifesto of 1919
states; "Craftsmanship is essential. The artist is a craftsman of heightened awareness." This statement helped form the basis of Mark's work.

While in his early youth, Mark was an altar server and his interest in liturgical vessels began. His talent for art was nurtured by his father, Albert, an artist. This talent was demonstrated by winning numerous art competitions, on the local and state level. While studying at the university, Mark was required
to study painting, drawing, art history and
metalsmithing as well. He "raised" his first chalice in his beginning semester and his Liturgical Art career was launched. Mark completed his Masters degree. This was followed by two extra years of study and teaching at the university level. He then worked in the jewelry industry including an international firm which sent him to their home office in Paris, France.

With his wife Susan, Mark relocated his studio to Santa Fe in 1993 to further his religious and artistic growth. His award winning work is dedicated to liturgical art and design, working in all mediums. Mark has been commissioned throughout the United States.
